Telkonet Advances Bellingham School District's Energy Efficiency Drive
School District takes advantage of the Puget Sound Energy rebate program to equip 44 portables with intelligent energy management
GERMANTOWN, Md.--
Telkonet, Inc. (AMEX:TKO), the leading provider of innovative, centrally managed solutions for integrated energy management, networking, building automation and proactive support services, is to provide its advanced Telkonet SmartEnergy (TSE) solution to Bellingham School District, the largest of seven school districts in Whatcom County. TSE will be installed in the majority of the school district's portables, used for extra class space and during renovations, as a cost and time-efficient method of maintaining energy efficient temperatures without manual intervention. The district is implementing TSE under the Puget Sound Energy rebate program, designed to encourage schools to upgrade thermostats to the latest 365-day programmable models.
Bellingham covers nearly 100 square miles and has more than 10,500 students in preschool through grades 12 across thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools and four high schools. With the aid of the Puget Sound Energy program, the school district has been able to accelerate its energy management initiative, with the rebate scheme covering the entire cost of the installation.
Manager of Buildings and Grounds, Mike Anderson, is confident that TSE will deliver substantial energy savings, commenting, "With anticipated savings of around 20%, this represents a considerable sum of money to help the district offset other rising expenses. The entire installation will be completed in time for the new school year, giving us a degree of control we have never had before. TSE's technologically advanced thermostats include intelligent programming features and 365-day, 24-hour time clocks, which will save us a great deal of time and effort."
Telkonet is an active player within the education sector, with recent contract wins for its TSE energy management solution including Babson College in Massachusetts, and the Austin Independent School District (AISD) in Texas. Hillsborough County School District in Tampa, Florida - the nation's 8th largest school district - selected Telkonet's advanced powerline communications (PLC) technology platform earlier this year to provide high-speed Internet access (HSIA) in more than 200 schools. As approved equipment under the Puget Sound Energy rebate program, TSE is a 365-day programmable thermostat, with automatic daylight savings time correction and full battery back-up in case of power failure. With TSE, energy savings are realized by deploying Telkonet Energy Management Occupancy Sensors with smart, programmable Telkonet Energy Management Thermostats and Telkonet Energy Management Controllers to adjust and maintain a room's temperature according to occupancy, and avoiding any unnecessary heating or cooling of vacant rooms. Central to TSE's efficiency is the unique Recovery Time(TM) technology that works quite differently from a typical fixed-setback system, in which the temperature is set to one fixed amount in all rooms. With TSE, each room's temperature is adjusted based on many factors, calculating how far it can drift from the occupant's preferred temperature setting, while ensuring the temperature will return to the occupant's setting within minutes upon their return. Additionally, the system reduces the run-time for heating, ventilation and cooling equipment, decreasing maintenance overheads and extending the equipment's working life.
